Joslin McKinney

Joslin McKinney is Associate Professor in Scenography at the University of Leeds, UK. After working for a decade as a professional designer of set and costumes, she undertook a practice-based PhD on the Communication of Scenography. She has gone on to research and publish articles and chapters on scenographic research methods, scenographic spectacle and embodied spectatorship, phenomenology, kinaesthetic empathy and material agency.

She is the lead author of the Cambridge Introduction to Scenography (2009) and co-editor of Scenography Expanded: an Introduction to Contemporary Performance Design (Bloomsbury 2017). With Scott Palmer and Stephen di Benedetto, she is editor for the Performance + Design series of books for Bloomsbury Methuen.

Joslin is the Programme Leader for MA Performance Design at the University of Leeds and she has been invited as a guest lecturer and workshop leader at the Norwegian Theatre Academy and the National Theatre of Cyprus. She has acted a consultant for the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. In 2105 she was the Chair of the International Jury at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space. She is a board member for imitating the dog.
